I love how she majored in Latin and all her spells and names have very thoughtful latin roots, but for Chinese characters she was literally just like “Hmm Im gonna name her Ching Chong”

I know! When I first read the books when I was 13 I was super into linguistics (yes I’m a nerd) and when I read those names It was like a full stop in the immersion for me. I was like “wait what?” You’re telling me there are magic schools all over the world- different cultures and languages. Everything is super detailed and well thought out- but apparently when it comes to this, everyone has super stereotypical names and language barriers are brought up ONLY when it’s a convenient plot device.😫

I’m so sad Rowling is culturally inept. It would have been so amazing to have the same level of detail as there was with the rest of the Wizarding world when it came to cultural and global details.
