many countries, such as Australia have had similar visa bonds, usually through visas granted under family sponsorship (w refunded bond costs extremely similar to the US). Regardless, illegal immigration as a whole is a large issue in the US whether you want to admit it or not (& it affects the healthcare and housing crises as well). obviously the southern border is the focus for illegal entrants but when u host a WC with 100s of thousands visiting, visa overstays are a MAJOR concern.

if there is a common trend of specific countries’ citizens overstaying their US visas it is not racist to enforce preventative measures like visa bonds. that being said I think 10-15k is a lot for any person whereas 5k is a lot but more reasonable considering it gets returned as long as you return on time.
