Here in Cali the lunch break is “protected”for you, you must be allowed to take a lunch break before being made to work 5 hours.

I think the reasoning is that they want you to be available in case others there need your support between 4 and 5 But yeah, that does certainly sound nice

Congratulations. Your employer has decided you now work 9-6, but leave at 5 since you take an unpaid hour-long lunch from 5-6.

that’s ok in some places? I’ve gotten a half hour lunch and done basically the same thing

I urge everyone, if you’re in a situation where you can drag your feet and underperform in your job, pls do so. Even the most subtle things can undermine this thing we call civilization. You can make a difference

I’ve only worked at places where u have to clock in and out, and also clock ur breaks so i mean yeah i don’t see why not as long as u clock after the hour. But if u dont have to then i dont see why it’s a problem.I’d be leaving early asf if I didn’t have to clock my hours

You literally can in any salaried jobs

Because office jobs exist to make you miserable and drive you insane. Viktor Frankl said the thing that was hardest to bear in the camps wasn't the beatings themselves, but the pettiness and randomness with which they were given; the indignance of the situation. Same principle.

I can confirm that this is not true in *all* salaried jobs

Not in Cali but I don’t get a break at my restaurant job when I work 6-8 hour shifts as a dishwasher ‼️‼️ It’s only if we work 10-12 hours that we get a half hour break

I’m in Pennsylvania lol, and idk it must be cause no one’s said anything about it. It’s like if we work singles we don’t get a break, but the second single shift is much longer than the first, so it’s 6-8 hours second shift, and 4 first shift

looks like PA law is very lax regarding lunches for adults 18 and up 😕 however you are likely entitled to compensation for your lunches if you're not fully relieved of duty, which it sounds like may be the case

so wild how different it is. not only does my state require a lunch after 6 hours, but it also has to be during a certain part of your shift - specifically somewhere in the middle. like my bosses can't just send me home and call that a lunch - they actually have to let me take a lunch about halfway through a shift

in any case, if you work at any point during your lunch you have not been relieved of duty and are likely owed pay

I wasn’t 18 for most of the time I was working there, I was 17😭 I wasn’t able to work during college this past school yeaf, and I’ve been injured all summer so I haven’t been back since last August, but lowkey might not anyway

Oh I was fully relieved when I had them, I didn’t stay anywhere near the building, I went to Barnes and Nobles to eat and read😭 There may have been moments I lost a couple of minutes, but I just gave myself the extra time lol. But like again I would do four hours of basically nothing, a thirty minute break, then 6-8 hours of hard work straight if I were to get a break. If it were just one of those, then I get no break, it sucked
