I heard that instant mashed potatoes can be used instead of frosting for practice

Practice on parchment paper for easier reuse! Also, you can scrape off and reuse leftover buttercream and freeze it, and the cake, to use a number of times over. My mum used to practice with Crisco or peanut butter, too when she was still baking. Mostly peanut butter because she loved it so much and would snack on it. 😂

You can just throw it in the freezer after and just keep it until you have something to use it for or just keep it and use for practice
