doing a group project about autism for my childhood development class just served as another reminder of how little people understand what autism is and how people will never fully understand the internal experience of others

I took a diagnostic course and we went over autism. First part was everyone giving what they think of what they hear autism. So many negatives like apathy. I rose my hand to add in multiple positives that conflicted like hyper empathetic. While I didn’t tell the class my diagnosis I did speak up a lot that day to add in extra input

I also do appreciate the way it was formatted. The point of that first exercise was to showcase that people have preconceived ideas of what things look like. It was to deconstruct that bias and talk about viewing conditions more clinically and objectively.
