why does my neurologist and my primary care doctor act like it’s a crime to get tested for autism because i’m still getting the help i need either way (diagnosed at 4 with autism but then an elementary school said it was adhd)

I think some people are burnt out from the wave of diagnoses and people thinking they have it. Which, a lot do. There’s a reason there’s a wave and lots of people are getting diagnoses they missed out on. But I imagine people involved in the process just feel “omg another one.” Especially because with so much attention on neurodiversity, there are a good number of people that DONT actually have autism or ADHD thinking they do

Which is not at all on you. Even if you have all the resources already, you shouldn’t feel any shame about just wanting confirmation after so many years and the original diagnosis being from when you were a young child. No one should feel like they don’t have a right to access medical or mental care. But just a idea of way some medical professionals might react negatively, even if in their position they shouldn’t be letting any bias affect anything
