a) Earplugs can be mixed and matched, even in different models & brands, or within the same type of earplug b) I love my over the ear hearing protection, it tends to be more comfortable than the plugs for me. Have you looked into it? c) If you think over the ear hearing protection will make you look weird in the setting, try AirPods Pro (if you can afford them). Their noise cancellation is pretty good, and the audio quality is about as good as Bluetooth earbuds has gotten to date
