I don’t mean to judge, but every other autistic girl I’ve met is so cool and fun and lovely to be around. Every autistic man I’ve met likes to use their diagnosis to excuse inappropriate (often sexual or predatory) behavior. Anyone else notice this?

100% This is a really common thing where autistic AFAB people are usually diagnosed later, and are also still put under societal gender restraints that force us to mask and minimize ourselves early on, whereas autistic men typically are diagnosed earlier and have their behaviors excused even more so than neurotypical boys leading to a lack of understanding of accountability

I’ve also seen them use it as an excuse to use slurs/make bigoted jokes/general jokes in poor taste and then brush off criticism. Frustrating as all hell, though I’ve seen similar behavior from neurotypical boys too

See, that’s what I’m thinking! I’m glad my post didn’t come off as rude, but it’s also so sad that people continuously excuse the actions of boys whether on the spectrum or not.

Yeah, it really sucks. I wish there was a happy medium where we weren’t forced to mask and minimize ourselves, and they were taught responsibility and accountability. It’s a disservice to them that their behavior is constantly excused and often causes horrific cycles of abuse for their partners

its crazy to me when people like that blatantly get rubbed the wrong way when you do the exact thing they were doing but have no awareness to prevent them from doing the same thing
