Remember to get your HPV vaccines if you haven’t gotten them before. It protects against some of the common cancer causing strains (preventing over 90% of HPV caused cancers). Although the risk is highest for cervical cancer, this post is correct that some can occur in the throat. Penile cancer can also occur in males.

But wouldn’t that be any sexual encounter and not just oral sex? Like what specifically about oral sex is dangerous, and is unique to oral sex specially

The location of it as well as possible damage to the tissues in the throat. HPV can screw with the body in any locale but is also a big contributor to oral cancers.

HPV has several (like 100) strains, many of which can be sexually transmitted and some of which can cause cancer. It’s most common that women get cervical cancer from HPV, but oral sex with HPV can lead to throat or tonsil cancers.

My mum reached an aggressive stage of cervical cancer because of HPV and didn’t have the *slightest* idea it was happening at all. Only found it because she finally went into a gynaecologist for a routine appointment. 🫠
