Depends, do it when it feels right. I know it’s scary. I asked my girlfriend after a month and I was so scared she would think it’s too soon and it all turned out fine. If you feel you want this relationship to go in that direction then ask.

I’m sure it depends on culture but my preference is to assume anyone who is interested in being official already knows it and won’t be scared off by you asking if that’s what they want. Not intensely, just like “hey so I was wondering what your plans are with this. Like are we just having fun or do you see more for us? Or do you think we need time to know each other better first?” If you can drop it after that it should be fine to anyone who actually would consider being serious.
