Those who got a diagnosis as an adult, what did it change? I know if I was still in school I would have been put in a better environment but as an adult I don’t know what it would change for me. I’m asking because I’m nervous about getting a diagnosis.

My sister got tested. She’s now capable for social security help (though she’s been trying to get it for years and had to get a lawyer) other than that nothing changed. I’m autistic too (it runs in my family) but I’m never going to be tested. I don’t trust this current society not to try something underhanded and I want to be there for my sister and son (both autistic and diagnosed)

That’s another reason I’m nervous. With everything going on I don’t want someone to try to use it as a limitation and stop me. I do think getting one and talking to someone about it would be helpful but I’m not sure about the future.

If you think it would be helpful you should do it (just make sure there is someone you can count on that doesn’t have it too, they may not do anything but they’ve talked about some crappy things in the past and it’s always a good idea to have someone who can vouch for you that they will listen to) *sigh* …they tend to treat us like babies.
