Is anxiety generally normal with autism? I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder before I was diagnosed with autism and am wondering if I have 2 separate disorders or if the anxiety is actually just autism

It is a common trait with autism but there’s no direct link, my guess you’re hyper aware a lot of the time anyways and that’s what bare bones anxiety is

a lot of behaviors that would be an anxiety disorder (extreme otherthinking or overpreparing, catastrophizing) in a neurotypical are a pretty logical response to living with neurodiversity because we actually do consistently get screwed over for being ourselves or being unfamiliar with a system. you can’t really therapize or cope or medicate your way out of anxiety if your fears are pretty rational for your circumstances. the difference for autistics is probably in how debilitating it is

I think it’s very very common cause we think about so many details than cause stress and anxiety, that being said I also have both autism and anxiety diagnosis sooo

Yes I’m hyper aware of like 95% of things, is that not normal for everyone?

like frequent full on panic attacks, getting sick from anxiety, avoiding or isolating not because of the initial fear you’re concerned about but because of the physical sensation of terror. a lot of the other anxiety criteria doesn’t really work for a population that does experience worst case scenarios out of our control regularly.

lol same because I got my results and combined with previous diagnosis and tell me why the doctor served me a triple diagnosis of adhd, autism spectrum disorder and generalized anxiety disorder LMAO
