Why do so many women automatically assume male gynecologist are creeps? I’m a guy studying to be a gyno and it really feels like I’m gonna just be seen as a freak

I understand the impulse cause it’s a sensitive “area” and mistrust is natural that said have a male gyno and he’s been great but it’s more a law of averages thing

I don’t think they’re creeps at all but I’m still more comfortable discussing women related issues with a person that goes through it themselves and can be a relatable person to speak to

I def don’t think they’re creeps! I would just personally not want one bc it would make me uncomfortable but I know a lot of women prefer them and have had great experiences. Good luck

A lot of it comes from our general experiences with creeps in general and how many of us have been screwed over by doctors at one point or another. Just be the best you you can be. I think you’re awesome— my mom had HPV turn into cervical cancer and almost didn’t find out about it until stage IV.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of stories of male gynecologist taking advantage of their patients, unknowingly impregnating them, assaulting them, not taking their medical needs serious, etc. I’m not saying female gynecologis always take the needs of their patient seriously because the reverse happens often too, but there is a larger risk when it comes with men. Of course every male gynaecologist isn’t like that, but it is something that women are wary of.

I don’t think every make gyno is a creep but I’m definitely more cautious of them. What’s your reason for wanting to go into the field?

My mom died of ovarian cancer. So it’s kinda my way of honoring her and helping people so that they don’t have the same fate

Definitely makes sense. I think just be aware some women may be extra cautious of men but a lot of women also have make gynos that they really like and trust. I’m sure you’ll be great.
