Just say exactly that and ask for his explanation. If it’s not a satisfactory explanation the ask for a raise to make your pay equal to theirs.

Maybe they negotiated for a pay bump? When you got interviewed, did they ask what you would like your wage to be?

no, that’s the other thing. apparently they asked the others what they wanted their wage to be, but in my interview they told me it would be $16 and there wasn’t any negotiation available as it is a new restaurant.
