I met a guy, realized I had chemistry with him, and asked him out. Most of the girls I know will either ask guys out if they are interested, or otherwise plan to make it obvious, for example scheming to get time alone with said guy, flirting, etc. also there is a learning about and vetting a guy to make sure he is not a Creep that a good few of us do

Not necessarily. I live in a super progressive area. Some areas have different common attitudes about dating. There are definitely still a lot of girls who don’t approach. And not that it’s a comfort but, it might not be your looks! There could be other things that would keep a girl from forming interest (not saying their def is, but there are a lot of different factors that go into deciding if a guy is of interest or not)
