Is “weak” better? Or can you explain why it’s an issue? I don’t see how associating the word strong with black woman is a diss especially considering I see so many black women saying that to others

And I think people don’t understand that the phrase ‘strong black woman’, is meant to masculinize us. It’s not a compliment because it’s never natural and seems performative.

It’s the emphasis on race. She’s just a strong woman. A strong person. And there’s a weird, not fetish, but similar towards the idea of a “strong black woman”

You never hear anyone say “strong white woman” “strong Asian woman” or anyone else with the description “strong” in front of it. So why say it to black women? It comes off as disingenuous and condescending. Especially with the societal stigma of black women being “strong and masculine” enough as is. Same with referring to us as “black queens” it’s like you’re trying overboard to give a compliment without it being normal. It’s not a compliment to us

Also the implication of always having to be strong because the world forces you. That’s not a compliment, it’s a reminder. And it perpetuates the idea that black women don’t deserve or need to be treated as gently as other people/other women, which has been a theme in many areas—especially medicine where doctors and institutions have for decades perpetuated the myth that black people have “thicker skin” and don’t feel as much pain
