She views it as a way to get free drinks, but I kinda view it as flirting. No man is buying you a drink to be your friend and I feel like accepting that initial gesture is playing into it. She agreed no issue, but I kind of feel like an asshole

Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn’t accept a drink from a random guy at a bar anyway, even if I was single. You never know what they’ll put in it.

It’s not a boundary because he asked her to do something. It is a personal relationship request/rule and a good one to communicate.

I mean a boundary is just defining essentially a line you don’t want crossed, OP’s line is not accepting drinks from other guys. Not detracting from him communicating that

My understanding of boundaries are solely about your own actions, not someone else’s. It’s all in the wording. Every relationship needs rules/guidelines of comfort so that the relationship can succeed

Boundaries don’t have to just be about your own actions though… it’s about what you both find acceptable in the relationship overall. I’m basically making the same point about rules/guidelines as you are here 😭
