The data implies they were rated using a scale, the average for men rated by women would be much lower than the average for women rated by men

Yes… and women rated the average man below average. That’s the idea of a 5, that’s middle of the pack.

We can assume that they were being rated on a scale according to the women’s general personal preferences in men, instead of rating them compared to all the other men included in just the study (in which case ~5 would have to be the average)

Well when most men are either raging misogynists or willing to turn a blind eye to it that’s what happens. You guys need to take better care of yourselves too, keeping yourself clean and being mentally healthy aren’t girly things they’re mature adult things

Everyone’s into different things, but I’d say most women would agree that being emotionally healthy and hygienic is the bare minimum
