
This is called idealization or projection in psychology, and is something often associated with BPD! The way that’s treated is with dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), which basically trains you to hold multiple truths about a person at once. For example, a therapist might ask you to name 3 things you like about someone, and 3 things that don’t fit your ideal.
