Because they think nobody else will love them or there are some things about that person which they like which they think they won’t find in anyone else. I stayed with my toxic ex who emotionally abused me for the exact same reasons. I couldn’t break up with her because she’d kill herself. I would be late to work every day because I’d try to stop her from killing herself, and I sacrificed my grades and my wellbeing. And I got fired from that job but I was 18 and it was my first job.

although I feel some may not agree, especially due to like the “harsh” wording, I completely agree. There’s usually deeper levels to it but for instance one of my best friends has literal attachment issues where she cannot be alone in terms of a boyfriend. And I feel it’s cause she’s been in only toxic ones since middle school and that just fucked up her brain too much into thinking she’s not worth anything better so she just goes back.
