It’s weird how anti-walker the US is. Get glared at all the time for walking into a store a bit sweaty. No wonder this country is so unhealthy.

Genuinely wish this shithole country had walkable spaces and access to public transportation. Not all of us can or want to drive cars. We’re so fucked.

I don't think the fact we don't have walkable areas is why the country is unhealthy. It's probably more on the fact that healthy food cost more money, and most Americans are near the poverty line. I also think American has some of the most extreme weather conditions, which make it a lot harder to walk during certain parts of the year.

lol it's the youngest country in the world and spanned a giant CONTINENT. They tried to make it walkable, but we expanded to quickly.

South Florida. It’s somewhat walkable around me but I’ve been asked if I was homeless because I was walking to just get out of the house and do some work on my tablet out of my kitchen table. I was like “no?” And they asked me why I wasn’t driving. Like… cars are so ubiquitous it’s weird to walk to places unless you’re in a mall.

Nope. I shower in the morning and use deodorant. My hair does have a habit of looking more like I stuck a finger in a light socket than the managed curls the products promise and when I sweat my back and forehead tend to get the most sweaty which doesn’t help my hair either. But I don’t think I smell like BO or anything.

I live in Florida too, and no one should be walking long distances in extreme heat or severe thunderstorms. It's just not safe, no matter how much rain gear you have or how hydrated you are.

Walkable areas are 1000 % part of the reason in addition to the other things. I’m pretty near the poverty line but move a lot and I see concrete differences in how healthy I am that correlate pretty directly to how much I’m able to walk places.

It is literally cheaper to eat healthier in multiple aspects

I’ve lived here almost all my life take a break and get a cool (not cold) drink every mile or two and you’ll be fine. Lmao most of our pe was outside playing games, running a mile etc. To say you can’t leave your house for the heat or at the risk of rain is… wow. Besides until it smells like and feels like rain it’s not going to rain.

Right? But I’d rather walk or take public transit than own a car. But that’s just me because I like that it gets me moving around.

(Unless someone is old, disabled, or has blood pressure issues.) But I’m not going to stop walking around because I might get sweaty and people might have opinions.

i said long distances, and severe hear & thunderstorms. not light rain... and it being sunny outside. i haven't lived in Florida my whole life but i did live in Texas and we were encouraged to not go outdoors during extreme heat or if there were hurricane warnings. not to mention ppl up north shouldn't walk around during severe cold weather either. i'm just saying that i understand why ppl don't feel comfortable

I’m medically not allowed to drive. But I can get around to grocery and stuff but entertainment stuff and having a life is a problem down here though. I can’t afford a city with a better transit system either.
