Instead of complimenting vaguely, make it obvious you’re interested in them. Like instead of “that dress is so pretty,” say “you look amazing in that dress” or something like that. Also if they’re clearly gay you can compliment them on obvious things like hair, fashion sense, tattoos, piercings. Just be forward and intentional with your wording
