Because if possible women are more likely to leave, they don’t tend to make family annihilator situations. They can use intelligence and just call it quits.

Women are kinda taught to leave bad relationships more than men are. Like I’ve been hearing that philosophy since childhood

Because lesbians often get married quicker than straight couples. There’s many jokes about lesbians moving in with each other immediately

1. Emotional intelligence - gay people tend to not follow the strict marriage norms of “stay in the relationship because you have to”. If theyre unhappy, they tend to just leave. 2. Gay people are an increasingly oppressed demographic. After the trump admin, its not shocking that tensions have risen. High stress tends to break relationships (especially when the relationship itself raises your risk of being discriminated)

This chart also goes on longer than gay marriage has been legal. Idk for certain but i think breaking up from a civil union/not official marriage has a much lower cost/involvement than a legal marriage

Lesbian relationships often move too quickly. It’s gotten to the point where it’s now a joke in the community and is often referred to as “u-hauling”. Now if they get married in that time then break up, it is counted as a divorce. I think that accounts for the volume. Now when it comes to the reasons, I’m sure they’re the same reasons any other couple has for breaking up.

This, higher emotional standards for either other, and more willing to go through with divorce and not take any shit or cheating

Even in straight couples, the woman is way more likely to initiate divorce so I think it makes sense that if there are two women vs two men that would also affect it

But gay men aren’t getting divorced nearly as frequently

I mean thats also not shocking considering what people have mentioned already; women are more likely to initiate divorce and marry sooner. Those = higher divorce rates when both parties in a marriage are female lol

It only includes legal partnership. Gay marriage was legalized federally about 15 years ago, but the remaining 5 years before that still had gay marriage in some states. Most other states had “domestic partnerships” or “civil unions”, which was also involved a legal process. It wasn’t as simple as breaking up with a bf/gf

Before the federal ruling, 38 states (and Washington, D.C.) had already legalized same-sex marriage.

Ok fair, i heard that the divorce process wasnt as difficult with civil partnerships

That I don’t know. Regardless, the majority of the data (all of it since federal legalization) is about marriages. Even if the far left end of the graph is skewed, the most recent 15 years show the same trend
