I want to be taken seriously, and sometimes “boyfriend” just gives off the wrong connotation. I don’t want to sound like a silly teenager in a legal situation (teenagers are not silly, I just don’t want the discrimination), so in some cases I let people find out why my bf is through other means.

Either she isn’t or her partner isn’t. Whether it be one of them isn’t ready to label what they have going on, or maybe one of them is embarrassed of the other member, it’s hard to say.
