Is it too much to ask ur bf to text you before he plays video games?? Like it takes less than a minute to send a message. Am I being crazy here? Like “Hey babe I’ll be playing video games tonight. Call me if you need anything. I love you.”

I’m a woman and I think I would find it annoying if every time I wanted to put my phone on dnd and read for a few hours I had to remember to text my bf first. I just want to live my life without having to check in about what I’m doing constantly. Sounds like you lean towards anxious attachment

Hi everyone thank you so much for commenting! I have apologized to him for any unintentional pressure I put on him for requesting this and this is an insecurity I have learned that I need to work through.

Sometimes it feels like I’m being ignored or forgotten about. The text message would be the bit of reassurance that if I want to call him I’m not interrupting him or he hasn’t forgotten about me.

But if hes gaming you would lowkey be interrupting him. Imo it might be more fair to maybe ask when might be a good time to call again or smth?

do u genuinely worry that somebody has forgotten abt u just bc they don’t text u back for a night? bc this sounds like a personal insecurity thing that u would probably benefit from working through

I really just think it’s a check in not interrupting or needing to know someone’s every activity or move. Also better to let them know bc if I’m personally gaming I’m likely not picking up the phone bc I’ll be concentrated, so if I’m telling you before you can at least be aware instead of thinking I’ll ignore your phone call so I don’t die. It’s not that hard to communicate with y’all’s partners

My intentions were purely for a check in not to be badgering him about his every move.

well i was asking the OP that bc it’s a very anxiety-driven way of viewing relationships. if someone doesn’t text me back quickly or missed a sporadic call from me, im not worried that they forgot abt me or don’t care, i just figure they’re probably busy or not on their phone at the moment. we all live our own lives, and especially if ik my partner likes to game, i can also make an educated guess that that’s what they’re doing.

I do have anxiety and adhd so my brain likes to do back flips and I’m unmedicated for both bc I can’t afford it.

completely understandable! i also have adhd and have worked hard to counter my anxiety. a good starting point is that whenever u have a Really Bad Thought, (ie “omg he didn’t text me back he hates me”), practice recognizing that, and then try to come up with alternative explanations (ie “well maybe he’s gaming” “he could be in the shower”) so that ur not leaving the catastrophic thought running around ur head
