My girlfriend wants to go on birth control mostly because of us dating, and I want to be able to talk with her in an educated manner about this knowing she’s doing it for us. What are things I can look into to support her and help her through this choice?

I would look into potential questions you both might have, different types of birth control, what side effects she may experience, etc

This is a great question! So do you have any questions about birth control in particular? Do you know the different options?

we discussed an arm IUD and different pills. Our concerns(hers but they are now mine) would be large hormonal changes and then gaining weight as she’s an athlete. I have done a lot of research but it’s not always the same as a person who has actually taken them or been on that bc method

yeah i know some side effects are inevitable but it’s knowing we don’t have control over them and trying to figure out how to best take care of her through whatever that process looks like

So gaining weight isn’t always assured, I didn’t gain weight on it! There can be large hormonal changes or there could not be. I’d talk to a doctor about the different options

thank you - obv this isn’t at the cost of a doctors opinion but i’m doing my best to understand and help before that would happen
