Why are people proposing we ban IVF, IUI and surrogacy. For some people. That’s the ONLY way they can have children.

I don’t know. I feel like people can make their own decisions about their bodies and families so banning those feels weird

Because it was never about having children, it was about having control.

the only reason half my family is even here is surrogacy, ivf, adoption, etc. i know it’s not conventional but isn’t the whole point of being alive on this earth to live your life? and for many people that includes having a family. it shouldn’t matter how because as far as im concerned the people that pay tens of thousands of dollars to have a family are more worthy of that love than the people that do it for free and actively walk out of their families

Burning take: Sometimes, just because you want children doesn’t mean you should have children…

Agreed. My fiance is infertile. And the only way we can have a child is by IVF (if he has any sperm) or IUI with donor sperm. There was a post saying “if god wanted you to have a child. He would let you” as an argument for banning Ivf is wild

That’s crazy! If you want to have a family you have a right to do that regardless of if you’re fertile or not. I think it’s a great thing that we are advanced enough as a society that people like you who want kids can have the opportunity to have kids. I would much rather that than someone who doesn’t want kids to have kids

But the woman agrees to it. I don’t see the problem if every party is consensual

i hire a desperate poor man to test medical drugs in my garage for $14 an hour. unnecessary and serves nothing but my personal want. is this ethical? i mean, he consented!

They have precautions in place and do back ground checks. That’s not the same as someone doing unlicensed tests in a garage. You are entitled to your own opinion, I was just stating my own. I’m not going to try and convince you because you can think what you want

background checks and precautions don't eliminate the risks of pregnancy, or the exploitation of renting a woman's body. you can think what you want but the logic and ethics are frail

If you can't support a child you shouldn't have one. But that doesn't make systems that help people have kids bad. It's not their fault their bodies don't do what it is supposed to do

Of course they don’t eliminate risks. Risks are extremely hard to eliminate completely. Especially in America where we don’t have enough support for pregnant women anyway

I think if you’re infertile we should fix the infertility, not come up with an artificial way to make children. It’s pretty fucked up

How the hell can you fix the infertility. My fiancé has a condition where he literally cannot get me pregnant. They cannot find an exact cause. But he produces sperm, they’re just not getting to his semen and out into me. There’s no fix Minus IVF

okay, so you agree that surrogacy offloads health risks from rich women onto poor women!

aw gee, why didn't the developers of ivf think of that? what dumbasses!

Every pregnancy comes with risks. Doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor. Surrogacy helps those who literally cannot carry a child, have a biological child or their own. My best friend has to do surrogacy because if she gets pregnant, her uterus could literally explode. But someone is willing to take those risks, and carry a child for 9 months to give parents a child. Pregnancy comes with lots of risks. But surrogates are willing to take those risks. My body, my choice. ->

That isn’t what I said at all lol. I was talking about how the American healthcare system sucks. Mainly I’m thinking about how some LGBTQ people use surrogacy because they can’t have kids the heterosexual way

If someone is willing to be the one to carry a child, why try and ban their choice. That’s going against everything. It’s their choice to make. So why try and justify your own opinion by trying to ban it.

would they be willing to take those risks without financial need? poor woman's body, rich woman's choice!

Me? I’m not homophobic. I’m saying surrogacy helps people of that group have kids

"yes, pregnancy is risky, and yes, the healthcare system sucks. but who cares if rich people who don't feel like undergoing those risks just dump them on a poor person instead?"

bro you can’t FIX infertility, the way you “fix” that situation is literally what IVF was created for

LGBTQ people use it so you want to ban it for everybody? What about the women who have always wanted to be a mother but have endometriosis or are infertile. What about the men who dream of having a kid but have low sperm count? What an awful, selfish take

Reading comprehension. I’m in support of surrogacy. I know people that have used it and I’M GAY so I was thinking about how it helps my community have kids if they can’t. I am against banning it and have been this entire conversation
