Jc why do so many women emphatically support Lindsay Clancy? What is it about killing children that triggers a soft spot in the modern woman? Is this related to how 80% of infanticide is committed by women, so even ones who haven't wish they could?

So, I personally ofc, don’t support her in the context you’re referring to in the killing of her children. I don’t support harm to minors or infants in general. And I do believe the murder of the children is wrong no matter how many say it isn’t, no matter the person or mental state a murder is a murder ofc. But I do emphasize that a lot of ppl do not have the corrective mindsets when dealing with depression, coming from someone who works with ppl with many disabilities

women don’t have a “soft spot” for killing children, nor do they wish they could commit infanticide, that’s quite an absurd stretch. the support likely comes from the fact that she was suffering from psychosis and there were other external factors leading her to commit those crimes.

The supporters are especially loud, not especially representative.

Women who commit infanticide are usually suffering from postpartum psychosis. It’s the same way we judge a murderer less harshly if they are acting under psychosis, especially if they show extreme remorse. She had a genuine health condition where she went to get help several times and didn’t receive it. Most women understand what that’s like. This doesn’t mean she’s innocent or doesn’t belong in jail, but it does make her “less evil”. Most mothers worst nightmare is loosing their children ->

I’ve worked with ppl that have had things so much as aggravated assault charges etc. and those ppl know what they did was wrong, but also that during those states no one was helping them to prevent it ever happening in the first place. They were hopeless and scared and angry. PPD and many other disorders really need better attending to

i don’t think anyone is saying that she was in the right by killing her children, i think the “support” is just women coming together for point out that clearly she was very very unwell and didn’t receive the kind of help she needed to have prevented her breakdown

But why do women frantically rush to find excuses when it's a woman killing a baby? If it was a male molesting his children instead, would you be rushing to mention psychosis to collect sympathy?

women likely have more empathy for other women. but in this case she literally did have psychosis. no one is rushing to mention something that’s not directly relevant

so I’m sure they can empathize with that aspect as well. There’s also a narrative going around that the husband may have had something to do with it (I do not personally believe this) but misinformation could have easily contributed to some people’s opinions. Postpartum is often overlooked or not treated as seriously as it should be. Oftentimes sexist men view it as a woman just being “emotional” or “hormonal” instead of recognizing it as a genuine mental health condition.
