Many girls grow up with the expectation that they look nice and act proper. I literally watched my family members tell my cousin that she needs to cross her legs when she sits because it’s “ladylike”. As a kid, you either accept this messaging or hardcore reject it.

I rejected it because fuck that shit. However, I may be penalized for it in the workforce: conventionally attractive women are preferentially hired over those who don’t fall into those beauty standards.
