Honestly? I would read up on the statistics for black women.

I also understand that I shouldn’t expect them to trust me especially if they have previously had a terrible healthcare experience regardless of the practice.

I think the best thing you can do is just listen and not treat us like we’re some kind of kryptonians. I‘m african and haven’t had much interaction with US healthcare but my first interaction with a white american doctor she told me I was „incredibly strong for everything I went through“ 💀 I grew up upper middle class and went to an international school. She told me it „shouldn’t hurt that much for you“ AND IT DID INFACT HURT.

I’ll definitely have to look at updated stats! I actually did an entire project on it for one of my classes to spread awareness to my peers.

You don’t have to baby us or anything But if someone says something hurts or they’re in pain, take them seriously. You do that and you‘ll be doing wayyy better than most health professionals.

I prefer to learn from personal experiences of those it affects directly rather than just taking a class. I’m also not made of money lol and have zero time to add another class onto my already packed schedule
