I really think, like any joke, it depends on context, delivery, and setting. A successful comedian can make pretty obscene jokes at times without backlash due to this. Context is everything. By and large though, I think there are probably very few circumstances where jokes about assaulting one’s partner would be okay. I can’t even think of one right now.

Depends on the crowd. Some people like to make dark jokes, but there is always a time and a place where that is a bad idea. Some people make jokes at a group’s expense ethically (…?) by making sure to target all groups equally.
