the issue with it is who is paying these? what about the white people who are in poverty compared to a rich African American family? Do they have to pay reparations to them? That wouldn’t make sense, because that’s exactly what people have been fighting AGAINST, “tax the rich” it’s not about being black. It’s about poverty, it’s about homelessness, it’s about differences in equality when it comes to race and gender. Not just black people, but any POC can experience these inequalities.
It’s kinda nonsensical when you really think about it. We act like everyone was involved in slavery. Literally 1% of the population owned slaves when it was legal. If you want to try and get money from an organization or a large wealthy family that had slaves once upon a time that would make a little more sense but 99% of us have no relation to it whatsoever. Half of my ancestors weren’t even in the country prior to the 1880s. The ones that were here lived in the north and didn’t own slaves.
To add to my question of WHO, would an 18 year old white person be taxed extra to compensate for something another 18 year old african american person did not experience? Or would the 18 year old pay it to someone who was alive during the time of segregation? I understand generations have been AFFECTED, but why are innocent people being held accountable for their skin color?
