i also grew up with only brothers and a mom who never did her makeup/hair/nails and i just watched lots of YouTube makeup tutorials and acted nonchalant to my family about it lmao. they’d make little comments about it at first until it was old news and no one says anything now

Also don’t give up!! It takes time and you’ll have some weird phases lol but the second best time to start is now! Just experiment and lean into that till you find what you like!

HEAVY on focusing on your face shape! I spent so much time when I was younger feeling down that my makeup wasn’t turning out how it was in the videos I was watching but I was actually just not doing makeup that fit my face! For example when contouring your nose if you feel it and look where the shadows naturally lie then you can learn how to contour it in a way that fits YOUR individual face, rather than how someone in a video says it should be contoured to get a desired look. Hope this helps!

Moisturizer, and primer before you begin adding anything else! Elf grippy primer is the best. I can do some virtual classes if you need

i think at this point all the ones i watched are pretty out of style now tbh it was many years ago, but i would start with figuring out what your face shape and eye shape are, and look up videos tailored to people who look somewhat like you. for example, for me i would look up “contouring for heart-shaped face” or “eyeliner for downturned eyes” to find techniques that are flattering for me

i also think watching lots of “do’s and don’ts” makeup videos is really helpful to figure out all the tips & tricks
