I really like that women are calling out all the horrible things that frats do to them but why do yall go? I mean clearly you should know it’s risky right? And they are a lot of other options that are still fun and so much more safer? Is it a status thing

Nothing is safe, and you go with friends and people you trust. They don’t go thinking it’s gonna be them. People do many dangerous things because they are fun. Do you drive? Why do you drive, if taking a bus is safer? You will not die in a bus accident.

i went to frats as a freshman because it was free alcohol and the only parties around. def not a status thing. me and my friends were safe and implemented safety precautions always. we went to frats where we knew some guys and trusted them, and avoided the ones with shady rumors. nothing bad ever happened.

women that go probably are aware of the risk but it just feels contradicting that we need to be the ones to watch out for frats when frats should be upholding better standards for themselves. it’s like saying “yk the risk of wearing that short skirt so why do you do it” well bc anyone who’s taking advantage of someone for being somewhere (at a frat) or wearing something should be educated and taught right from wrong. woman shouldnt be taught to reduce risk, predators should be educated

I don’t go to frats. That doesn’t mean that I can’t call out the horrible things they do. Some frats have a different reputation. I refuse to take that type of risk (and my school doesn’t have frats anyways) but that doesn’t mean everyone does so. No matter what we shouldn’t have to fear being raped for going somewhere on campus.

I see your logic but also we take many steps in our day to day lives to mitigate risk. It seems like not going would be the easy choice here. When I was a freshman I rushed a frat for one day, I never returned due to their disgusting behavior.

People do try to mitigate risk. But they also want to live their lives, and have fun with their friends, and get to experience the world. People never think it’s gonna be them, and I think you’re skipping over that part. This isn’t stupid girls skipping off happily to be raped, these are people thinking it’s a slim possibility, but looking forward to drinking with friends and having fun and seeing their crush.

Yeah I think the part I struggle with is how are frats even fun? I can think of so many other things I’d rather. But true people think it won’t be them until it’s too late. I just hate how frequently this shit happens
