Assuming you don’t know him/her very well prior to the date. Guide the conversation toward getting to know him/her - ask what he/she does, hobbies, likes, upcoming travel, goals, what she is studying, what kind of food she likes (so you can invite her to that type of restaurant for date #2 😉), etc. Family can be a touchy subject for some people but if vibes give off that it’s not a sore spot then go for that too.
