Starting with a compliment, but try to make it about something they chose, that will usually prompt further conversation For example: compliment their outfit, or their hair if you notice they’ve done a new cut or style, etc Don’t compliment things like eye color, because there’s really nothing they can say in response, and it says nothing about them as a person
