Anyone think that stores should have dedicated lingerie sections for men like we have dedicated lingerie sections for women? Like wouldn't it be cool if stores had a section for men's lingerie too?

Good point, I would think the ladies would like that but I am not so I couldn’t say.

I’m asking about a clothing section in stores, not about whether the clothes exist, just to be clear.

I see boxer underwear but that’s basically it :/ I’m saying lingerie like Victoria’s Secret but marketed for men instead. I’ve never seen this before. Wouldn’t that be cool? I’ve never seen “sexy lingerie” designed for men

I have NEVER seen a single one. If stores with men's lingerie sections exist, they are significantly less common than women's lingerie sections. I looked it up, and the ones that have it are usually a small number of options in store while the women’s section is huge with lots of options. Try and find a store with a huge walk in men’s lingerie section.

I know you’ve never seen a single one before. That was my point. Why do you think that is? Because there’s no need for it. Gay men, guys with a fetish and trans people are the only ones that would shop there and that’s too small of a population.

That is a very weird and heteronormative answer from you. You want to know the social reason for why it doesn’t exist? Because women’s bodies are more sexualized by our patriarchal society than men’s. My question was not “why”; my question was would you WANT it to be that way, and you never answered that question. You do not have to be gay or have a “fetish” to want to buy lingerie as a man, just as you don’t need to as a woman.

Maybe instead of asking a question in response to my question, you start by answering the question in the OP first. I'm curious what your answer to my original question is first before we go off on a tangent.

The truth only hurts when it’s supposed to. It has nothing to do with being a patriarchal society lol 😂 Women wear lingerie for two reasons. To feel sexy and to seduce men. Heterosexual men don’t think about feeling sexy the way we do and they aren’t trying to visually seduce a woman with any type of lingerie. That’s ridiculous.

Yes it does have to do with patriarchal gender norms and expectations. There is nothing “inherent” about men and women that explains the dynamic you just described (where women wear things to feel sexy). That is a product of gender norms. The idea that “women want to look sexy” while “men don’t want to look sexy like women do” is a gender norm that is downstream from patriarchy.

Why do you believe men shouldn’t have these clothing options available in stores? Is it because you believe in gender stereotypes about what clothes men wear “should” wear and what clothes women “should” wear rather than encouraging people to wear ANY clothes they want to?

You’re so needy and desperate to make this conversation something it’s not 😂 You’re definitely gay or trans and good for you, I don’t care but you need to understand that your worldview is the minority. In a society based on capitalism, which is what we have, we primarily base things on the majority. Stores don’t have sections like that because the overwhelming majority of people don’t really care about that and would never buy those products.

“In a society based on capitalism we base things on the majority” Is that why you hold homophobic and sexist views? You come here telling me “You must be gay or trans” and that “women dress to feel sexy”? Really disgusting way of looking at the world. Hey, if you don’t want to critique or combat patriarchy in any way “because capitalism says we should go with the majority” (why are you supporting capitalism?), then be my guest. Just don’t pretend that your views are not harmful to women.

I AM a woman. You want to be. We aren’t the same. Women do dress to feel sexy. That’s not a sexist view it’s a fact. Source? I’m a woman idiot. This has nothing to do with combating the patriarchy 🤣 That’s just nonsense you keep telling yourself 🙄

“Source? I’m a woman idiot” You are ALSO misogynistic. You can be sexist AND a woman. YES, women wear clothes to feel sexy, but the issue with your close-minded, misogynistic worldview is that you believe that men SHOULDN’T have clothing sections dedicated to making men feel sexy about what they wear. Your worldview reinforces patriarchal gendered stereotypes. Check yourself before reinforcing heteronormative sexist stereotypes.

Work on your homophobia and misogyny before giving people advice. Acting like “looking sexy” something that should be exclusively reserved for women is also harmful to queer, nonbinary, gender questioning, and trans people. ANYONE should be able to buy clothes like that, so acting like it’s strange for me to ask about a dedicated lingerie section for men is weird on your part, not mine.

ur joking right? the beauty industry exists to prey on manufactured insecurities due to misogynistic & patriarchal stereotypes and expectations of women. of course it generates profit when half the population is convinced they need a smokey eye and hailey bieber’s lip combo and a chemical cocktail of antiaging skin creams and serums. of course politics don’t matter when women on both sides fall for it! lmfao why do u think men are mocked when they do wear makeup? it’s not because Profit

YES, all they care about is profit. Now, where is our capitalist system situated inside of? It is situated within a PATRIARCHAL (and white supremacist) capitalist system, specifically. So, what is profitable? Well, feeding the public the exact same gender stereotypes and misogynistic patriarchal views that they presently have and are willing to purchase. So, when I ask if it would be nice if we had a lingerie section for men, I already know that it is “profitable” to reinforce gender norms

Notice that my question was never “What do you think makes corporations the most money?” Maybe you are so obsessed with our current patriarchal capitalist system that you cannot think outside of it. Maybe take a step back and reread my question. I asked you whether you would support or be fine with a lingerie section for men. Telling me what corporations find profitable does not answer the question of what YOU would prefer, unless you and profit-seeking corporations agree on everything.

how can you be this willfully ignorant and stubborn about being wrong. it’s embarrassing for you. lmfao. why do you think women shave? because companies in the 1920s wanted to sell more razors (capitalism) so they said look! ladies SHAVE now! (introducing a new patriarchal beauty standard: hairlessness). the cycle repeats and builds upon itself until it’s socially reinforced and expected of women. capitalism thrives by pushing products while patriarchy thrives by shaming those who don’t adhere

I’m so confused mate. The market would likely make a completely separate department store for it bc of the judgement ppl get from shopping anyway. But if it’s made by a woman it’ll likely get sales. Men don’t really make things functional for men, or women really. I’m sure there’s at least one person who would buy it if it’s advertised correctly
