Do men think of their maleness as an intrinsic part of their identity or more like a set of norms/behaviors they are expected to follow/display

As a trans guy it’s definitely an intrinsic part of me that i *display* through behaviors and the like

This kind of thing has been argued about in psychology for over a century. Nature vs nurture, biology vs society, genetics vs culture. I tend to lean towards nature.

Personally I do, but there is no one single definition of masculinity and manliness. For example I drink fruity drinks and avoid beer, someone may think that’s emasculating but what should I care? I like my fruity drinks and don’t care what others thank about that and in my opinion that’s manly

Its an intrinsic part of who i am, like my hair color and height

I mean, there’s certain things that are expected of me as a man, but I don’t let the demands of society solely dictate what I need to do, in fact, in a sick society (which let’s not kid ourselves, this one is still sick) I find doing the opposite of what’s demanded of me, and waiting for society to request politely I protect and provide for portions of it, tends to work out better. If my skills as a man are not appreciated, I don’t utilize them for people who call them “toxically masculine”.

Can I say neither? I don’t really think about “my maleness” ever

“maleness” I don’t really think about, I’d say that’s more physical, but manliness and masculinity are absolutely just a set of norms I’m expected to follow. some parts of that might fit me, some parts don’t, I’m personally tired of trying to conform for the sake of conforming
