A a good way to do this is to get into a conversation that the two of you are enjoying very much. Then, make some sort f comment about how you enjoy talking with him, and would like to bee able to have those conversations even when youre not at work and whatnot. Whats the best way to do that? A phone number. Use that convo stuff as a justification and as a test. If he enjoy that time with you too? Then he’ll be willing to let you have his number.
