I wish there was like a board like, “talk to men.” Like i guess there might be some mean stuff there like people want to phrase jabs like questions but i just wanted to say: my mind cannot comprehend that there are different sizes of wires for electric.

Like a bigger wire holds more current like as if electricity was something like water like something physical? And don’t get me started with positive and negative current what the fuck is that?

Technically speaking there’s absolutely nothing stopping 10000 amps from going through an ideal 8 gauge wire, but the problem arises from the fact that any real material has a given resistivity to electric current. This value and the dimensions of the wire determine its overall resistance (bigger wire means less). Therefore smaller wires can’t carry more current because both a) the voltage necessary to get the current through so much resistance would be a major pain to generate, and

I think Reddit men would tear me to shreds for putting this kind of thought into words 😭

If it makes it easier to understand, electricity is the flow of electrons so in order to have a much larger flow of them (aka higher amounts of electricity or charge), you need to increase the amount of stuff that they flow through

Exactly, or use materials more conducive to free electron movement (more conductive)

b) current flowing through so much resistance will result in so much energy lost on the form of heat that the material the wire is composed of will inevitably melt (or explode).
