maybe, i wouldn't say thats all i talk abt but its just easier to start off conversations like oh did you catch the latest episode of SNL or whatever ya know

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 16h

Personally there's something grating about a conversation like that. I have no problem with small talk as long as it's about real life. But if I ever got asked something like that irl I'd immediately start looking for a chance to exit the conversation. Maybe it’s a me problem but I just can’t stand that sort of thing

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> OP 16h

Same with anything to do with celebrities lol

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 15h

i mean like i used SNL specifically bc integrates current events, music, and comedy. So using it to start a conversation, the person can choose something even related to show to talk about even if they didn't watch it. Ex: "Oh I didn't watch but Sabrina Carpenter hosted one time and i love her music" and then the conversation shifts to that. Plus bc its been airing for over 50 years it works with pretty much all ages of people. I don't like it when people think watching television ****

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 15h

**** is just vapid empty entertainment. Just like novels, most shows are also written down first, and are just brought to life in a different context. As someone whose studies entertainment tech, and creative writing, so much goes into the production of single episode of a television series. even something like as shallow as love island isn't made without thought behind it. television is just as much of an art form as it is entertainment.

It’s like the polar opposite of SNL. Check out 2070 Paradigm Shift, where they hijacked a TED event to give a fake talk where the speaker just fucks with the audience for 20 minutes and they have no idea it's a bit. The goal was to see how long he could get away with it without breaking character or being kicked out. https://youtu.be/4jRoatZizQ0?si=ZPZ5g7lPpNxJVWdv

yes.. again if you're a fan you should know this. It be like saying Micheal Jackson didn't revolutionize pop music. you're letting your personal opinion affect your perception making you sound uneducated and ignorant. for the millionth time, im not saying you need to enjoy SNL, but you need to pay it the respect it deserves. MDE is just SNL if it wasn't live and way more edgy and absurd

default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 9h

I mean it should be obvious that bc something came first doesn't mean it's better. that's not what i'm saying, like keeping with the micheal jackson analogy. lots of people compare him to elvis. personal opinion aside if it wasn't for elvis then micheal jackson wouldn't have had the platform he did. it doesn't mean that elvis is better. they had completely different genres and music styles but, it's like the saying _____ walked so _______ could run.

Maybe a television analogy would make more sense. The Simpsons was the first every adult animated sitcom, if it wasn't for the Simpsons we wouldn't have shows i personally think are better like South Park or Rick and Morty. So i owe the Simpsons my respect bc it paved the way for that genre of television. Does that make sense?

and how can you prove it isn't? how can you prove if the events of the The Simpsons being made, getting picked up and gotten popular then we would still have an entire genre of adult animated series? You could go even further back, if Walt Disney didn't make Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, how do you know we would even have fully animated films to this day? People literally thought if you watched a full length animated movie for long enough you would go insane.

upvote 0 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> OP 8h

like you can even go even further back, to the invention of motion pictures... like there are some people out there creative visionaries that broke past the societal boundaries. when the simpsons was made they thought animation was just for children, when south park was made they thought audiences couldn't handle hearing children swear, like irs because of these projects that inspire other artists to keep pushing those boundaries.

i'm not pretending. you you don't view television and film as forms of art. probably bc u have been conditioned to view them as forms of entertainment all for the pursuit of monetary benefit. it actually very heartbreaking seeing someone that hasn't witnessed the beauty in film & television. that you've never been around a truly creative person who would rather die than not have the ability to create something.

and i have to ask you why is that? you said "you boos don't mean anything i've seen what makes you cheer" was that meant to hurt me? we clearly have different taste. why does that make you see me lesser than? is because it makes you just wanna the validation of that you have more sophisticated taste than some random person on the internet? is it because someone made fun of you and the things you're into and now you want to revel in being on the other side of that? i never once insulted ur taste.

i don't doubt that, but because they work for these corporations that makes them less of an creative individual? why do you believe that? why is it wrong to want to make art to inspire the future generations of people? like i said my bf works for Peacock, and he and i both grew up watching SNL. It was his dream job to work for it and now he's achieving that dream. Why does that make him a villain?

Oh I disagree. Check out the play Mr. Burns, a Post Electic Play. The entire premise is hundreds of years into the future there was a horrible apocalypse and lots of life as we know it has vanished. However the one thing people do remember are episodes of the simpsons and the play explores how recreating those episodes brings back hope for all those around. Its a really great read, and even better if you get a chance to see a production of it.
