is it sexist if i cannot connect with a show or movie if the main characters are men and there isn't any notable women characters outside of the male characters?

Reverse the genders. Is it sexist? If so, yes.

I feel like this lacks context of how male dominated a lot of media is and how often womens characters are marginal or exist purely for the support of male characters or interest of male audience. Like given how common fridging is i can understand how a women could feel alienated by media that does not consider women

I disagree bc the reason why is bc as a woman i have can't relate. Whenever i see a woman I can immediately place myself in her shoes. I figured its the same with men? I mean like I can't think of a TV show with a woman who is the main character that also has a majority of a male audience. It's probably bc its just not as relatable to them. I related to so much to movies like Legally Blonde, Mean Girls, Clueless. Less so to movies like Superbad or American Pie.

Just the double standards that’s all

Unless i'm wrong and you fully enjoy and maybe even gravitate towards movies that have a woman as the main character? That you feel like a movie like Barbie spoke to you the same way Oppenheimer did?

Where do you see a double standard? Is there a male equivalent to these phenomena that you see?

Reminds me of the men feeling alienated from female characters in video games and them being RIGHTFULLY told to stfu and keep over it and seem women as human. Sadly women aren’t told the reverse

I mean in that case the issue comes from men complaining that they dont constantly have the limelight. This case is women feeling alienated because men always have the limelight

Typical, it’s always too much to expect women to not be sexist

Though there’s also good writing where you don’t need to connect with characters and can just observe as spectacle tbh
