I’m not a parent and my friends aren’t children. It’s not my job to ‘correct’ other people, because I don’t think I’m better than them. I’m not some enlightened all-knowing angel, and I’m not climbing down from my pedestal to tell them how their personal perspectives missed a software update. If I disagree with something they say, I’ll ask them why they believe it. But I have neither the duty nor the authority to tell them how they ought to think.

People in academia make up words allllllll the time. And I’m not saying they made that word with that intent in mind but, subconsciously, that’s what it’s being used for. The word was either crafted like that, or its meaning got hijacked and that’s how it’s used now.

Like you would figure as an academic you would want people’s genuine observations they see first hand. If people are just hurling titles like “bigot” at one another after they tell them something, that’s going to skew the data you collect.

But since you say I need to correct bigoted statements when I see them, let me begin here with you. You just assumed my gender, that’s bigoted, don’t do that. Also you just implied that only white people respect other people’s opinions. That’s hella racist of you, so maybe cut that out too.
