I haven't even really seen Seineld and I still can get references like if you don't know who Kramer is then that's just wack 😭it be like not knowing who Sheldon Cooper is or Ross & Rachel from Friends like there r plenty of characters that r timeless and Kramer is one of them

At this point it's lack of awareness as well as cultural history, literally Seinfeld and Friends are two of the most iconic sitcoms of all time. It be like not knowing The Great Gatsby or Pride and Prejudice.

There’s a huge difference between knowing The Great Gatsby or Pride and Prejudice versus a tv sitcom. One has hundreds of years of history and a critical lens of the society at the time. The other has… jokes about how dumb one of the main characters is.

Seinfeld basically reinvented modern comedy. Jerry Seinfeld is quite literally the richest comedian of all time. If Seinfeld never existed then most sitcoms today wouldn't exist. This is on the same level as The Great Gatsby or Pride and Prejudice. Just because it's a comedy doesn't make it less culturally significant. Shakespeare wrote tons of comedies, that did the exact same thing. You don't know your television history.

Having a new type of media is nice and all but sitcomes would’ve probably existed without it. I never said it’s comedy is what makes it not culturally significant. It’s the fact that I know way more about pride and prejudice. It’s the fact that one has a lasting impact over hundreds of years. In 20 more years can you say that Seinfeld is going to be culturally relevant? I can’t name a single character.

I have heard of Seinfeld. I have heard of Jerry Seinfeld. I simply do not care about it. I’ve heard of the new movie, I know the plot and I’ve never watched it. I am not failing to pay attention. I am talking about what’s important. For example: The hand maids tale. That has much higher cultural significance and importance than either of the shows you mentioned.

Yes? It was the fourth most watched series finale in Television history. I literally learned about that in school 😭. Also no, they wouldn't have existed since before Seinfeld all sitcoms were family related. It was literally the first ever show to depict single non related or co working friends together in a social setting.

Listen I get you like Seinfeld and all but I think even the actors in it would agree. It’s an old show and there’s plenty of people who haven’t seen it. It being the fourth most watched series finale? That doesn’t mean much because television is still a relatively new invention.

The Handmaids Tale is based on a book and if the show didn't exist that wouldn't change the cultural impact it had. Seinfeld might not be important to you specifically but to act like it has not relevance on pop culture especially in the world of comedy whatsoever is just ignorant. Again something doesn't have to be a drama or a political allegory to hold cultural significance.

I didn’t say that it wasn’t significant. I’m saying it’s not at the same level of The Great Gatsby or Pride and Prejudice. I am giving you an example of what I personally feel is a huge cultural impact and shift. It doesn’t have to be political but it very often times is. I don’t care if I never watch Seinfeld or Friends. Because it’s not something that matters enough to me. Anyways I’m a woman so I was giving my two cents. I actually don't like Seinfeld all that much i work in entertainment and media and know my history and appreciate it for what it is. You're right television is a relatively new invention but some things including Seinfeld will go down in history.

no it is with like gen x and MAYBE older millennials but generally no one my age (19) has ever seen it isn’t a current pop culture reference by any means
