go last name for last name; whoever has the tougher last name gets to keep it

I would hope she doesn’t want to take my last name. We can coin flip for kids last names or hyphenate

She gets to decide what she wants. I really don’t care. My only thing is having two last names makes legal paperwork difficult sometimes

Honestly I got daddy issues and hate my father, so I don’t blame anybody if you don’t want his last name either… 🤣

“Letting ur future wife” is kinda the issue you can’t be letting her, it’s what she wants to do that’s not up to you.

I wouldn’t really care. I’ve got a lot of family history behind my last name, I wouldn’t be happy if I was a women and asked that same question ngl

Seeing as my last name is hyphenated of both my parents, it would be very ironic for her to take my last name, and I very much wouldn’t want her to.

Honestly I’d need her to since I’m the only boy with the last name, can’t be letting it die out, yk?

Okay well what if it’s important to her and has significance to her

then we don’t need to get married and she can keep her last name. “what if it has significance to her” well no shit it will it’s a family name. the only way for it to live on is by continuance of the line. but i’m not marrying someone who won’t take mine or tries to make our kids carry her maiden. like you could maybe get me to swing a middle name for the maiden but that’s it

Mfs will talk about the continuance of the line like they’re medieval nobility

how else would you describe it lol. like i’m not even blood, i’m adopted, but i’m happy to keep the family name going bc of the life it has enabled me to pursue. i don’t think it’s wrong to be proud of your family

Ig my point is that surnames just don’t mean that much. But if a man losing his last name is such a profound loss, why is it not so for a woman who’s forced to take her husbands last name

it’s a great sacrifice made in the name of love. i do consider it a very large gesture, my family helped me to this point and now i am giving myself to you to take care of. it is not a small gesture at all, neither is marriage. that’s why i don’t consider it necessary to get married if you’re unwilling to take that step

What if my last name sucks and I don’t want her to have to have it?

Marriage represents an enormous commitment, but that still doesn’t explain why there must be a gendered asymmetry. And there are more tangible ways someone can give of themselves to the person they married

Well sure, what is love if not sacrifice, but keeping my own name doesn’t mean I would love any less or any differently

My mom did not change her last name when she got married, and my last name is a hyphenated last name of my mom’s and dad’s. It would thus be very ironic for my future wife to change her last name to mine when the whole story behind my last name is my mom keeping her maiden name when getting married. Also, as the only child between both my parents, I’m pretty sure I’m the only person with my hyphenated last name, and I have no intent to change that.

Ok, but hear me out, what if you both have hyphenated last names and get married and decide to hyphenate. Smith-Johnson-Williams-Brown
