I think it would be fair for you to try to ask again, but if he says no or says something similar without offering an alternate time/date, it may mean he doesn't feel the same unfortunately since normally, people like to offer another time if they have plans and wanna see you. Hopefully that isn't what happens here but if that does, it'd be best to respect his wishes and boundaries, and in the long run, it'll be good for you since you can find someone who wants to see you as much as you do
