My lil brother ( 17 ) never cries. Yesterday he busted out in tears and nobody knows why and my parents didn’t help the situation cause they cussed him out for crying. How do I help him I already told my parents to back off but that doesn’t seem enough?

If you offer him a place of support and he doesn’t take it, there isn’t much you can do unfortunately

“Hey bro, I know we don’t usually talk like this, but I want you to know I’m here for you for literally anything. I don’t know what you’re going through, but I want you to know that I love you and I care about you and anything you’re going through, you’re not alone. I may not ever be able to fully understand what you’re experiencing, but I will support you no matter what, and I never want you to hesitate to talk to me.”

I also did ask him what’s wrong but he said he was fine which I doubt that’s true but I don’t wanna push the issue. I’m just really concerned

Make it seem like it’s not that big of a deal when you ask so he feels more casual about talking about it

He probably does it where nobody can see or hear him or bottles it up I know from experience

I think just reassuring you are a safe space and won’t “rat him out” or tell mom or whatever and if he feels comfy he does. Ur trying to pull it out is only gojng to have him react and pull away

“I’m fine” can sometimes mean he intends to work through it alone. Might not be the best option but it’s the option he is pursuing. You already stood up for him in front of your parents which, unless he wasn’t in the room at that moment, he surely noticed.
