I’m 31, and this isn’t a new thing. I’ve heard the same thing about YouTube and MySpace. It’s fine that people learn from new tech. I agree with your larger point, though. Millenials and Gen X have vicariously been bulldozing every obstacle for their kids, resulting in this current sheltered era. I die inside every time that I hear “I don’t want my kid to also have to go through…”; when you steal people’s struggles, you also steal their best opportunity for growth.
It definitely depends on the song. Some songs like Hotel California are timeless. Even if you're not into classic rock or american music that's still definitely a song that everyone should recognize, and that people will judge you if you don't know it. You don't have to like the song but you should be able to recognize it.
like i can't stand country music and don't know much abt it but i could probably still name three timeless country songs bc i don't live underground and just pay attention to my surroundings. even so say i didn't know Sweet Home Alabama if i came on the radio i'd have to common sense to not announce to the world that i didn't know that song. especially if im in an environment which i live in the south so it's often where there are a lot of country music fans. id just be embarrassing myself
Alsl my co worker knew the song from tik tok like thought it was a new song that got popular from tik tok and had no clue abt The Eagles or even the rest of the song. So yeah im judging her bc that's ridiculous. especially when it's literally played in our place of work all the time, if anything she should've recognized from that it would've made more sense.
