so if the oil change man tells me i have to change my air filters because they’re “suffocating my engine,” what would happen if i turn down that service?

Agree with what everyone is telling you. Never add on services at the repair shop. View them as a diagnosis, but always get a second opinion. They will probably charge you 100+cost of filter to do this while it should only cost you $20 to do it by yourself

Air filters are really easy to change on your own (depending on the type of car the cabin air filter takes some finesse to get in)

Nothing. You can wait longer. I mean it would be better to change them if it’s been awhile, but nothing would happen if you refuse it.

They are always going to try to get you to replace those yourself and it’s up to you, but I know Jack shit about cars and even I can do that myself so I always say no. There are tons of YouTube videos to help you replace them, and the oil change shops always suggest it even when I KNOW mine aren’t that dirty. It’s something that’s pretty cheap and easy to handle yourself

If you have any friend or friend of a friend that knows about cars ask them

Also it’s easier to just replace them yourself instead of paying someone else to do it for you. But ig it doesn’t matter if you’re going to get oil changed

unless there’s a date on it or you can see that it’s clogged with dust, they have no reason to assume it needs replacing besides getting more money. You can replace it but don’t pay them extra for a 5 minute toolless job
