Confidence is attractive, but being wrong is unattractive. There’s a difference between “I’m so pretty” when she’s all dressed up and has put on makeup and is going to a wedding or something and “I’m so pretty” when she’s just trying to make herself feel better.

Average meaning average. And why do you care?

Not to be combative, but is there something harmful about positive self talk to make yourself feel better? or thinking you’re pretty when someone else disagrees? It all seems so subjective to me

It’s not self talk if you’re telling other people that you’re pretty. Do self talk all you want, and to some degree attractiveness is subjective, but there is some general consensus. You also framed it as objective so my answer changed if her being average is just my opinion.

I mean it is self talk, it is how you talk about yourself. And it does impact how you feel about yourself when you compliment yourself & speak positively v. negatively. What I’m understanding is you voted for the 1st option & that’s fine. Just find the reasoning interesting ie. she’s “wrong” and that irritates you.

I actually voted for the second option with the comment as sort of a caveat. I just think it can read as insecurity in the second case. Insecure is a better word than wrong here. It’s less irritation and more that it makes me sad.

You said it was unattractive that doesn’t evoke a sense of sympathy for them. You called it wrong & unattractive. If you meant sad & insecure… just say that. Don’t have to backtrack w/ me ✌️

Insecurity is very unattractive.

So basically an average woman calling herself pretty on a normal day is insecure & unattractive? I’m just tryna clarify.

I would say the appropriate characterization of my thoughts is this. Someone telling someone else they’re attractive to convince herself ifs true is likely insecure.

… and so, someone normal saying something about being pretty to another person means = convincing herself of something she must know is untrue? insecure, and therefore ugly.

what i’m hearing is unless ur affirmatively hot, don’t call yourself pretty to anyone even if ur not ugly… fair enough

I think in general this assumption that a normal woman would only call herself pretty to “convince herself” of something is what’s getting me here. like normal woman could never subjectively find themselves pretty lmfao, idk idk idk idk idk 🙃

If an average woman finds herself pretty and says that to someone else that’s totally fine and I don’t have an opinion on it. The case I described was a conditional, not an assumption. If she does find herself pretty and wants to hype herself up, more power to her.

I just find that assumption to be telling. That your first thought was to go on a tangent about woman lying to themselves because they aren’t objectively “hot enough”
